ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the clinical application of reduction anaplasty trough a minor pre-auricular incision. Methods A retrospective analysis of 89 patients with wide zygomatic arch treated with reduction anaplasty through pre-auricular incision from 2012 to 2016 in our hospital had been studied.Through a short incision in front of ear, zygomatic arch at the most narrow part, located about 5 cm in front of temporomandibular joint, was completely transected, whereas the junction of malar and zygomatic bone was drilled to make a greenstick fracture. No dissection of zygomatic ligament was perforemed. The dissected zygomatic arch was then pressed down and adjusted into a appropriate position. In the case of the protrusion of zygomatic body, the protrusion part could be reducted using grinding ablation. Results All the patients were followed up for 3 months to 5 years. The results were satisfactory,no serious complications were found, and the facial tissue did not show obvious ptosis.Postoperative numbness occurred on the left side in one patient and recovered spontaneously after two months. Conclusions Reduction anaplasty trough a minor pre-auricular incision is a simple, safe and effective approach for wide zygomatic arch, which could avoid facial tissue ptosis.

ABSTRACT

Objective To quantify the expressions of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α),caspase-8 and caspase-3 in lichen planus (LP) lesions, and to investigate their significance. Methods Skin samples were collected from the lesions of 20 patients with LP and normal skin of 20 healthy human controls.Immunohistochemistry was used to determine the expressions of TNF-αt,caspase-8 and caspase-3,and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP-biotin nick end-labeling (TUNEL) technique to evaluate the apoptosis in keratinocytes,in these samples. Results The expression levels (expressed in integrated optical density,IOD)of TNF-α,caspase-8 and caspase-3 were (12.58 ± 2.33) × 103,(11.69 ± 3.52) × 103 and (11.45 ± 2.82) × 103 respectively in LP lesions, significantly higher than those in the normal skin ((5.12 ± 1.78) × 103,(3.87 ± 3.36)× 103,(4.76 ± 1.93) × 103,t =11.38,7.19,8.76,respectively,all P < 0.01).Elevated apoptosis index was noted in keratinocytes from LP lesions compared with those from normal skin (71.35 ± 7.93 vs.33.62 ± 8.75,t =14.29,P < 0.01).In LP lesions, the expressions of both TNF-α and caspase-8 were positively correlated with the apoptosis index of keratinocytes (r =0.72,0.75,respectively,both P < 0.01) and the expression of caspase-3 (r =0.68,0.73,respectively,both P < 0.01).Conclusion The up-regulated expressions of TNF-α,caspase-8 and caspase-3 may participate in the apoptosis in keratinocytes in LP.

ABSTRACT

The automatic spike detection in EEG is significant in both diagnosing illness and alleviating the heavy labour force of the doctor. This paper proposes a new EMD based method to complete spike detection. It decomposes a signal into a few intrinsic mode functions (IMF), and then applies the nonlinear energy operator (NEO) to the first IMF to complete the automatic detection. Sufficient results are obtained by applying this method to the spike detection of the simulation signal and the real epileptic EEG signal.

ABSTRACT

Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) is a new time-frequency analytic method to analyze the nonlinear and the non-stationary signals. The key step of this method is the empirical mode decomposition (EMD), with which any complicated signal can be decomposed into a finite and small number of intrinsic mode functions (IMF). In this paper, a new EMD based method for suppressing the cross-term of Wigner-Ville distribution (WVD) is developed and is applied to analyze the epileptic EEG signals. The simulation data and analysis results show that the new method suppresses the cross-term of the WVD effectively with an excellent resolution.

ABSTRACT

The automatic detection of EEG spikes is important both in diagnosis and alleviating the hart work of doctors. This paper uses B-spline wavelet which does well in detecting break point to detect spike of epilepsy. Through experiment, the validity of the method is proved.
